Welcome to a New School Year!
Visual
Art at Holy Redeemer School
2014-2015
Kindergarten-Eighth Grade
First Quarter: DRAWING
During
the first nine weeks of the school year, we will be reviewing and practicing
procedures and expectations in art class. Students will review how to make
consistent sketchbook entries, care for the classroom, and work collaboratively
and resourcefully. As the children adjust to routines, we will review the
Elements of Art including line, shape, value, texture, space and color through
a variety of age appropriate drawing exercises. Students will also create a
beginning of the year self-portrait in the first quarter.
Second Quarter: PRINTMAKING
In
the second nine weeks we will explore printmaking. Students will learn about
relief, intaglio, planography and screen printing as they experiment with a variety
of age appropriate techniques including Collagraphy, Gyotaku, stencils, and stamps.
Students will play with pattern, color, line, shape, and texture, as they design
and build original printing plates, cylindrical seals, and original stamps.
Third Quarter: PAINTING
We
will focus on color in the third quarter as the students explore painting in a
variety of mediums including water color, tempera, and acrylic. They will
practice mixing tints and shades, secondary colors and neutrals as they explore
color properties such as hue and saturation and the Principles of Art including
rhythm, harmony, balance, and variety.
Fourth Quarter: SCULPTURE
In
the fourth quarter we will explore three dimensional art making as students experiment
with clay, papier mache, and recycled materials to create sculptural works of
art. Elements and Principles such as form, space, balance, and proportion will
be explored and reinforced.
